Series-Fashion Women of 2011

“Women of Fashion-2011”

Expressing ourselves in everyday life helps us communicate with the rest of the world. It can be as simple as the cloths we choose to wear.  This thought process encompasses the world of fashion and design, which has significance to our culture, personality and our relationship with other people.  It  is a way of being in touch, being noticed, just like language and different  symbols articulate the need to be heard.

The series of this collection of paintings entitled, “ Women of 2011” were inspired by the world of fashion.  The color schemes encompass  the four seasons of nature, also the transgression from youth to adulthood, with the  specific personality  traits of a romantic, casual, sporty, modern, elegant and sophisticated self.  When two or more figures are visible in the painting, this represents multiple personality traits.  Example: the women of  the autumn season can be natural, solitary, chic or can be of different ethnic backgrounds, like Japanese or American.

The mixed medium in these works are metallic pigments, used in the background color, then coated with epoxy resin.

The women’s silhouettes are made of paper, coated with epoxy resin, then placed on top of the metallic pigments.  Several coats of epoxy are applied to fuse the base colors and the silhouettes together. These painting are 11in.x 14in., painted on  wood panels.

Figurative-Cube

The inspiration of this Collection, was a feeling of trying to imagine how it would feel to work in a “Cube” eight hour a day, five days a week. . A quote from Robert Frost gives significance to these paintings. “The Brain is a wonderful organ. It starts working the moment you get up in the morning and does not stop until you get into the office“.

The significance of each figure, the positioning and the gesture portrays a specific emotion. There are 46 works and are 4in.x4inches in size, are rendered with acrylic paint on watercolor paper. As you view each figure, try to make a connection with the feeling, ,that specific figure is conveying to you personally. It may evoke a feeling or the feelings you are experiencing throughout the day of having to perform in a “Cube”.
Proceed in viewing these works very carefully, but with spontaneity.
